Special Forces Medical Sergeant Path:
An Enlistment Route to Medicine
To become a Special Forces Medical Sergeant (18D) this pathway is the enlistment pathway. A GED is required but a college degree is recommended. Special Forces Medical Sergeants are only in the Army and after completing basic training in Army and occupation for years, a soldier can enter the Special Forces Qualification Course which is the initial formal assessment to qualify into the next phases of Special Forces Qualification Course. In phase 3, each soldier is assigned to Areas of Concentration in Branch 18. The Special Forces Medical Sergeant undergo Special Operations Combat Medic Course (SOCM) which is rigorous to become a Special Forces Medical Sergeant. SOCM is not solely for Army Special Forces, it can be taken by any branch in Special Operations that want to have combat medicine training.
Special Forces Medical Sergeant:
A Special Forces Medical Sergeant (Special Forces/Green Beret for Army) performs the emergency first-response care to wounded soldiers. One of the top trauma medical professional in the world with knowledge in all types of medicine: dentistry, veterinary care, public sanitation, water quality, optometry, OBGYN, and pediatric care. On the ground with soldiers and Special Forces and will see lots of combat.
